Child health, safety and nutrition are essential to supporting children’s well-being in early learning and child care environments. Safe surroundings, healthy routines, appropriate nutrition and responsive care help children participate in learning and play.
BITTS International Career College’s Child Health, Safety and Nutrition short course introduces students to health promotion, hygiene, sanitation, infection prevention, child safety, emergency awareness and nutritious meal planning. Students explore food handling, dietary accommodations, allergies, common childhood illnesses and injuries, and effective communication with families.
The course introduces Ontario-specific child care expectations, including the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA), Ontario Regulation 137/15, child-protection responsibilities, documentation, confidentiality and professional practice.
